The Picture in Your Mind

I imagine
she wanted to be…
a writer. A novelist.
So, she took a job as a secretary. Or an english teacher. Or a typing instructor.
In order to be close to words…
for her job.
How many obstacles did Joan overcome to move up the proverbial ladder on the show Mad Men?
Why do any of us choose what we do?
What are our reasons, why we haven’t shared our hopes with anyone?
It’s time to step out and follow your dreams.
And with that, I dedicate this piece to all the women pushing the envelope, in whatever way you choose.

This quote by author Joan Didion was stitched onto the ribbon by free motion quilter and Wyoming artist Mary Koenig. “The arrangement of words matters, and the arrangement you want can be found in the picture in your mind.”
