Rooted

Living in the town and, now the house I grew up in, gives me strong roots to my community. This windblown, prairie town holds a special place in my heart. Driving on the open prairie, I never tire of watching the antelope roam through my unrolled car window, the wind blowing in my face. When I stop to walk, I am always looking to clean up my environment, picking up trash and recycling interesting rusty things into my sculptures, breathing new life into something lost or abandoned. The arugula roots in this sculpture hail from my favorite local farm that I used to manage, Sheila Bird Farms.
